Extremist killed in ‘gunfight’ in Meherpur

Meherpur, Oct 11 (bdnews24.com)—The law enforcers have killed an alleged extremist in a so-called ‘gunfight’ at Gangni Upazila of Meherpur.

He was identified as Aksed Ali, son of Barekul Ali of Arapara village under Dhankhola Union.

He was a local commander of Purba Bangla Communist Party (Lal Pataka), the Rapid Action Battalion claimed.

The RAB’s Meherpur commander Sheikh Jahidul Islam on Monday told reporters a joint force of the RAB and the police around 4am on Monday raided at the Mohisha Khola field on a tip-off that some extremists were holding a secret meeting there.

The extremists started firing at the law enforcers being aware of their presence. The law enforcers also exchanged fire in self defence, he added.

The RAB recovered the body of Ali after the ‘extremists’ had fled form the spot. They also recovered heavy ammunition from the spot.

Ali has nine cases including several murder cases against him with Gangni police, Gangni police chief Matiar Rahman told bdnews24.com.
