4 cops injured in brickbatting, police fire in air

Jamshedpur, Oct 6 (PTI) Police fired in the air to scare a mob protesting the construction of a boundary wall by Tata Motors at Kharangajahar in Jharkhand today with four policemen injured in brickbatting.Four cops, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were injured in brickbatting during the protest by local residents over construction of the wall near the company’s residential colony at Kharangajhar under Telco police station area prompting police to fire two rounds in the air.Trouble erupted as local people demolished the wall already constructed by the plant near its residential quarters at Kharangajhar and a police force went to the spot to pacify the mob, Superintendent of Police (City) Jatin Narwal said.The district administration had evicted some encroachers of company land, who also set up a small market, following discussion between the administration and company officials but no permission was given for constructing a boundary wall, official sources said.Locals alleged the boundary wall came on a path, being used by them for decades but causing difficulty for residents of Ghorabandha.Local people even met Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, also a resident of Ghorabandha, recently and urged him to ask company officials not to construct a wall.
