Vandals Attack Police Station at Jeu de Balle

October 4
BRUSSELS – A small group of people attacked the police station located on the Place du Jeu de Balle in the Marolles district of Brussels Friday evening. The acts are believed to be related to an unauthorized demonstration that took place at Gare du Midi, at which more than 100 of activists were arrested.

Police are actively seeking the perpetrators of vandalism to the station, whose windows were smashed repeatedly with an iron bar. As of 11:00pm Friday, no arrest had been made in connection with the crime.

Near the Gare du Midi and Porte de Hal, 150 activists were arrested, according to sources close to the demonstrators. Those arrested were taken by bus to the Géruzet federal police complex in Etterbeek. The activists were protesting against the detention centers and the policy of expulsion of aliens residing illegally in Belgium.

Currently, 400 policemen have been assigned to enforce orders from the mayors of Anderlecht, Saint-Gilles and Forest, temporarily banning gatherings of more than 5 people on the street.
