IMPHAL, Sep 29: Security forces apprehended at least eight militant cadres and two overground workers belonging to different militant groups in separate counter insurgency operations.
A statement issued by the SSP, Imphal West district police, L. Kailun, a combined team comprising of Imphal West district Police Commandos, 26 AR and 28 AR under the supervision of S. Ibomcha Singh, MPS, Deputy SP (Ops), arrested two activists of the proscribed KYKL on September 27 at around 6:30 pm near the temple of Ebudhou Korouhanba Moidangpok.
The individuals have been identified as one Naorem Arun alias Karou Singh, 23, s/o N. Bolo of Moidangpok Angouton Singh, 28, s/o (L) L. Bidhu Singh of Moidangpok Makha Leikai.
On spot verification they disclosed that they had extorted huge amounts from general public of Patsoi and Lamsang area under the command of Yambung alias Malemnganba for party funds. One SMITH and WESSON pistol, one magazine along with six ammunitions, one Aircel SIM card no.8014833971 were seized from the possession of Arun.
It said that on the same day at about 9:30 pm acting on credible information Imphal West district police commandos arrested one PREPAK activist from Moirangkhom along NH-39 namely one Meisnam Kuber Luwang, 34, s/o (L) M. Sana Singh of Kongpal Laishram Leikai. He joined the outfit in the month of April 2010 through one Nitya Singh of top and is working in the finance section in Impahal area under one Ibomcha Singh. One AK-56 Rifles (made in China) along with a magazine and two live ammunitions were seized from his possession.
The statement further said that on September 28 at about 9 am acting on a credible information a team of the Imphal West district police commandos arrested two activists of the proscribed PLA from Kyamgei Palhalbi crossing, namely Mayanglambam Shamungou Singh, 44, s/o M. Bira Singh of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai and Yambem Narayan Singh, 50, s/o (L) Y. Tomba Singh of Kakching Wairi.
Both the individuals disclosed that they had extorted money from general public, various government departments and private schools for their party funds under the command of Chingchanglakpa alias Lakpa. Two mobile handsets were seized from their possession, adds the statement.
On the same day police commandos of the district also arrested two more cadres of the proscribed PLA from M.G Avenue, Thangal Bazaar namely Soyam Chaoba Singh, 44, s/o (L) S. Narahari Singh of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai and Thangjam Roman Singh, 42, son of Th. Ibotomba Singh of Pundongbam Mayai Leikai. Both the individuals disclosed that they extorted huge amounts from businessmen and government departments for party funds under the command of one Rombus of the outfit. Two mobiles were seized from their possession.
On the other hand a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), discovering the presence of UG cadres in general area Canchipur, troops of 28 Assam Rifles and 12 MARATHA LI of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched joint operation in the area and apprehended one PULF (Umar Farooq) cadre at around 12:15 pm on 28 September. The apprehendee was identified as Abdul Karim alias Itombi, 58 years, s/o Late Md Amok, of Phoubakchao. One 9mm pistol with magazine, four live rounds of 9 mm pistol, one license of SBBL gun, one mobile handset (Nokia) were recovered from the apprehended person.
A statement issued by the PIB Defense Wing, said troops of Red Shield Division arrested two over ground workers of PREPAK on 29 September.
Troops of 33 Assam Rifles during a search operation apprehended two overground workers of PREPAK namely H Ranjit Singh alias Basant (21), son of H Chandra Singh, resident of Chandpur Mamang Sabal, Bishnupur district and KH Abung Singh alias Mangan (29), son of KH Sanathomba Singh, resident of Kumbi Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district.
The individuals revealed that they were involved in carrying out extortion and tax collection for the terrorist outfit. The OGWs have been handed over to Moirang police station.
