PHCN loses 15 sub-stations to vandals in Ekiti

September 30

The Ado-Ekiti Business District of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) on Wednesday said 15 of its sub-stations had been vandalised by unknown persons within the last month.

It also said that five persons, suspected to have bypassed their pre-payment metres in Ikere-Ekiti, had been arrested and handed over to the police for interrogation. The District Public Affairs Officer of the company, Evbotokhai Oarhe, disclosed this in the Akintayo Sub-station in Ado-Ekiti, after inspecting vandalised cables and transformers. Oarhe said that eight sub-stations were vandalised at the Ado service unit, four sub-stations at the Adebayo service units, while Ikole, Ijero and Ifaki service units each had one sub-station vandalised.

“This incessant vandalism and destruction of PHCN equipment in Ekiti is devilish, barbaric, and unproductive and aimed at crippling the operations of the company. The implication is that areas affected will be in blackout, pending when the vandalised equipment are replaced. It is the policy of PHCN not to replace vandalised equipment.”
