KUET students go berserk again demanding exam shifting

UNB, Khulna

Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology went berserk on the campus again on Saturday night as the varsity authorities did not meet their demand to shift the date of 2nd and 3rd year first term examinations scheduled to start on September 23.

The unruly students locked the main gate of the university at 8pm and snapped the electric lines after grabbing the power sub-station inside the campus.

Witnesses said the students demonstrated on the campus amid darkness and ransacked some departmental offices and dormitories at night.

The University authorities held several meetings following the situation and banned meetings and processions on the campus temporarily.

Riot police have been deployed on the campus at 11 pm to tackle the situation.

VC Dr Alamgir told UNB that they took decision to hold the examinations as per schedule to run the academic activities properly and uphold the image of the university.

He said several meetings were held with departmental heads and teachers but none agreed to shift the examinations.

The 1st term examinations of 2nd and 3rd year students were scheduled to begin on September 23. But the students applied on Friday seeking rescheduling the exams saying they could not prepare well due to fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

Earlier on Friday night, the students went on rampage on the campus and confined the VC and some other officials to the Civil Department to press home their demand.

A tense situation has been prevailing on the campus.
