Police say they used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse dozens of vine-growers protesting local winemaker’s refusal to stock their grapes in western Kosovo.
Over 20 people, including a policeman, were reportedly injured after protesters broke through the gates of a winemaker and started hurling stones.
Vine-growers store their grapes at local winemakers, but a sharp drop in sales prompted privately owned wineries to turn back harvested grapes.
The Friday incident highlights Kosovo’s economic woes, with its 45 per cent unemployment rate.
