Solano Co. Courthouse Firebombed, Trials Rescheduled

VALLEJO, Calif. — A Molotov cocktail was tossed through a window into the Solano County Courthouse early Wednesday, heavily damaging a records room and forcing officials to shut down operations at the building indefinitely, authorities said.

The two-alarm fire was reported at about 4:10 a.m. at the Solano Justice Building at 321 Tuolumne St., Vallejo Fire Department spokesman William Tweedy said.

Evidence found at the scene quickly raised suspicions with firefighters who called in arson investigators.

The blaze damaged offices connected to the courthouse’s criminal division, according to Solano County sheriff’s Lt. Gary Faulkner.

No injuries were reported.

Faulkner said authorities were investigating the fire as an act of arson. No arrests have been made, he said.

Later Wednesday, the court announced that all court matters between that day and July 2 would either be transferred to Fairfield courthouses or rescheduled. Officials planned to reopen the Vallejo courthouse by July 6, but on Wednesday, they still needed to have the extent of damage assessed.
