Independent Record,June 24
Police are investigating two incidents of vandalism at Wal-Mart.
At about 2 a.m. Tuesday, at least two culprits threw homemade firebombs made from glass bottles filled with gasoline and stuffed with a lit rag at the big-box store’s entrance, according to Helena Police Sgt. Det. Richard Drysdale. The devices did not ignite.
Surveillance videos showed at least two males dressed in dark clothing spray painting graffiti on the building, he said. Some of the graffiti, done in black and red paint, was as large as 14-feet wide. Drysdale declined to describe what the graffiti said in order to not impede an ongoing investigation.
A metal pipe also was thrown through one of the front doors of the store, he said.
The extent of the damages has not been calculated.
Similar incidents occurred on June 14 when a homemade firebomb scorched one of the A’s on the Wal-Mart sign. At about 2 a.m. on that day graffiti also was sprayed near the entrance of the store, Drysdale said.
Wal-Mart officials declined to comment on the incidents.
