IMPHAL, March 21: In a major achievement, security forces claimed to have arrested at at least 11 militant cadres while conducting counter insurgency operations in different part of the state during the last 24 hours.
In the first incident troops of Assam Rifles arrested at least nine militant cadres, informed a statement released by the PRO IGAR (S).
It said that discovering the movement of UG cadres from Imphal to Moreh via NH-39, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sectors under HQ IGAR (South) established mobile vehicle check post in the general area Sita Road Junction at around 12 noon on March 20.
On checking of a TATA Sumo vehicle at the mobile check post, three KYKL cadres, two women and one man, were apprehended by the troops.
The arrested persons were identified as Shyam Khanal, 48 years, s/o Late Bira of Yairipok Ningel, Lilni, 40 years, w/o Shyam Khanal of Yairipok, Jiban Devi, 35 years, w/o Guna Mani of Uairpok Ningel, Thoubal.
Rs. 3050 and other provisions were recovered from the apprehendees who have since been handed over to the Imphal West police station, the release stated.
It said that another two cadres of KCP were arrested by troops of 29 Assam Rifles from a mobile vehicle check post in the general area Sita Road Junction at around 8 am today while checking a Tata Sumo vehicle.
The arrested men were identified as No. 23715 Pvt Y Ranjan Singh, 32 years, s/o Y Lukhol of Santipur and A Singhajit, 20 years, s/o Ibocho Singh of Mayang Imphal, Santipur.
Further it said that in yet another incident, troops of 31 Assam Rifles also apprehended four ULA cadre including its C-in-C and finance secretary at around 10 am on March 20 while conducting an operation in the general area Ward No. 2 Moreh.
The apprehendees were identified as Aimson, 36 years of Pallel, (C-in-C), Thangminlal, 35 years, of Ward No. 2 Moreh (finance secretary), Moringson, 16 years, of Pallel and Aning, 27 years, of Pallel, Chandel, the release said.
From their possession two magazines of AK-47 were recovered. They have since been handed over to the Imphal West police station, it said.
In yet another incident, according to a statement issued by the SSP Thoubal district, an injured cadres of the PLA who was involved in the encounter with 21 Para on March 16 at Old Tolen area, was picked yesterday.
The release said acting on specific information about some injured PLA cadres being treated at Imphal Hospital, Thoubal Commandos rushed to the place and arrested the cadre.
He was identified as one Ningthoukhongjam Bhagirat alias Hardly Meitei, 25, s/o N. Kula Meitei of Heitupokpi Mamang Leikai Heirok Part-II.
The individual disclosed he joined the outfit in the year 2007 through one S/S 2nd Lt. Nongleiba and got basic military training at Myanmar (army no.2937) it said, adding that on preliminary interrogation, he revealed that he was involved in the encounter with the 21 Para and sustained bullet injuries during the encounter.
Another statement released by the SSP Imphal west district, asserted that a combined team of the district police commandos and 12 Maratha Light Infantry arrested one KYKL activist from his residence today at about 11:15 am.
The arrested man is identified as Seram Piyarbond alias Iton Singh, 45, s/o (L) S. Pishak of Patsoi Part-II.
