Industrial violence a headache for Orissa Police

Bhubaneswar, Jan 20 (PTI) Saddled with the problem of left wing extremism, the Orissa Police is now facing a tough time in maintaining law and order following displacement of people at the upcoming industrial hubs and campus unrest.

Police are facing difficulty in dealing with the situation at Kalinga Nagar steel hub, the proposed plant site of South Korean steel major POSCO and Vedanta’s alumina refinery and smelter locations at Kalahandi and Jharsuguda, opined officials attending the 54th senior police officers conference at Cuttack.

The problem areas were identified on the second day of the conference today.

The state government had decided to pursue a peaceful industrialisation policy, but the displaced people at all locations were taking law into their own hands, the meeting said.
