Suspected militant arrested in Greece

Greek police say they have arrested a suspected member of a militant group that stepped up attacks last year and raised concerns of a resurgence of terrorist violence.

Authorities say the 26-year-old Greek man is a suspected member of the radical anarchist group Conspiracy Nuclei of Fire. He was arrested in Athens late Tuesday. Greek law bars identifying the man unless he’s charged and convicted.

Five other suspected members were arrested last year.

In recent months, the group targeted several politicians with small bombs, causing no injuries. On Dec. 27, it bombed an insurance building in central Athens, saying it wanted to protest the “Christmas consumer spirit.” No one was hurt.

Terrorist attacks by far-left groups plagued Greece in the 1980s and 1990s, before members of the deadliest organization were eventually arrested.
