Few hours to New Year, a police corporal on Thursday allegedly shot dead a 25-year-old Accountancy student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Adewunmi Adelowo, in Oogi community of the State .
The name of the corporal was given as Ismaila Mohammed.
Adelowo, in company with his friend, Tope Akintunde, was said to be riding his motorcycle to Osogbo to collect a gift from an unnamed benefactor in Osogbo, when he was allegedly shot in cold blood.
The deceased was said to have been ordered by Mohammed and his colleagues at a checking point to take his motorcycle into the police post nearby only to be shot by Mohammed as he was carrying out the instruction of the policemen.
Mohammed was said immediately took to his heels after shooting the student.
But the police authorities in Osun State said it has launched a manhunt for the fleeing corporal.
The Thursday incident was the fourth case of police killing innocent citizens within the past four weeks in the state. Similar incidents had been recorded in Ora-Igbomina, Osogbo, and Ido-Ijesa communities.
A police utility vehicle at the checkpoint was razed by an irate mob even as the police post was also set ablaze.
