Cops raid Stoke Newington ‘fortress’ squat – but there’s nobody home

SQUATTERS who had turned a Finsbury Park housing block into a fortress vanished ahead of a dawn eviction by cops.

Police planned the raid after 50 squatters barricaded themselves into Lemsford Court on the King’s Crescent estate.

The entrance to the ground-floor flats had been sealed by two steel doors, breeze-blocks, barbed wire and debris. Rubbish littered the courtyard outside and a makeshift barricade had been erected.

But when up to 40 police officers stormed the flats at eight o’clock on Tuesday morning, the squatters had gone.
