Arson, clashes mar second day of Telangana bandh

Hyderabad, Dec 7 (PTI) Arson and clashes between pro- Telangana students and police today marred the second day of the 48-hour Telangana bandh called by the TRS in support of its demand for a separate state.

About 1,000 students of Osmania University, a nerve- centre of separate Telangana movement, gathered at the varsity and raised slogans in support of the statehood demand.

They hurled stones at the police at Manikeshwarnagar near the university here on being prevented from proceeding to the campus.

The police, deployed in large numbers on the campus, used force to disperse the agitators, official sources said.

The students, however, claimed that they held a peaceful demonstration.

City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao told PTI earlier in the day that a campaign had to be launched in the university to ensure the safety of the families and properties inside the campus.–clashes-mar-second-day-of-Telangana-bandh
