Afghans stage procession to condemn civilian killing

KABUL, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) — Hundreds of Afghans came to the streets Tuesday in eastern Laghman province to register their protest over what they describe arbitrary operation and killing of non-combatants by NATO-led troops.

The protestors also called on the government to arrest and punish those involved in the killing of the civilians.

Meantime, Syed Ahmad Safi the spokesman for Laghman provincial administration in talks with media confirmed the operation by NATO-led troops late Monday night and said that 12 persons including militants and few civilians including a woman were killed.

However, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)in a statement rejected the claim as baseless, saying seven insurgents were killed and four others were detained in the operation carried out in Laghman province early Tuesday.

President Hamid Karzai’s office in a statement condemned the incident and ordered concerned authorities to initiate probe into the case.
