The students had been clashing with police in the morning Wednesday. They were warned the raid was coming by afternoon and lay on the ground in a circle awaiting arrest. Police carried them into a truck to be taken to a police station.
Students from several schools have clashed with police and U.N. peacekeepers all year to press demands for a hike in Haiti’s minimum wage, changes in curriculum and the departure of the U.N. troops.
A judge accompanied officers during the raid. A special warrant had to be issued because Haitian law normally prevents police from entering university campuses
